rear brake pads 850 1993

Are rear brake pads visible with tire mounted? I just had my rear brake pads replaced but I can't see anything that appears new. The calipers are clearly visible between the wheel "spokes," but should I be able to see the new pads attached to the calipers too? Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't trust the guy who supposedly did the work.
