Tranmission service required light has come on. We took a family trip from NY to NC(600 miles broken up over 2 days) and upon reaching our destination the transmission service required light came on. This came on after stopping for 5 minutes, pulled out of the parking spot in reverse and went into drive and at about 5 mph felt a "jump" in the car like a bump was hit, though there was none. Lost 1st gear it seems, then in geartronic mode got 1 -3. Sometimes the dash would light up with a "-" where the gear is displayed, sometimes 2 and 4 and not 1 or 3. Felt a bit of a rattle and some jumping feelings. Had Volvo on call tow it to a "local" dealer, about 40miles away. Sat there since yesterday and today they finally looked at it. They tell me the computer that runs the transmission needs to be replaced. The service manager, who isnt in until tomorrow, needs to order it directly from Volvo as it is a restricted part and this should fix everything. Anyone hear of this before? any suggestions? By the way, the dealer kept telling me about the Travel Interuption service through Volvo on call which will pay up to 3 days of hotel and car rental up to $500 dollars if you are greater than 150miles from home. Any input would be appreciated.
