Question about Radiator Fluid S70

The manual and Haynes say to only use Volvo radiator fluid when changing. Is this really necessary or are they just trying to sell fluid at the Volvo parts department? Shouldn't I be able to use the GM Dexcool as it is approved for use in aluminum systems?
