I have a 2000 WHITE S40. The paint on the entire vehicle looks blotchy. I have had other white cars before and have never had this problem. It has the look of water that dried on the car leaving water stains, but I have always chamoised off the car. (I do not think they are water stains, but that is the best description I can come up with.) I paid for the poly coating, but who knows if they actually did it or not.
Another fellow on the Brickboard had a crinkling problem with his paint and everyone said was due to bird droppings. Well, I have lived in this area for years now. I have had a dark blue Landcruiser (bought new - kept 5 years), a red Corolla (bought new - kept 5 years) and a white Corolla (bought new - kept 5 years). None of these vehicles have had any such problems with the paint.
Mine is not a crinkly problem, just bad blotching.
Anybody else with a similar problem or clues?
