2000 S40 Acceleration Noise S40-V40 2000

I recently bought a used 2000 S40 (automatic with 32K miles in excellent interior/exterior condition). I have begun to notice a "whistling/whining" noise when my car accelerates. It is most noticeable when accelerating from a stop. I don't notice the noise if accelerating after the transmission has reached top gear. Is this normal for a turbo engine?
