I have a Volvo 850 almost 8 years old now(Canadian model GLE). It has only about 75,000 miles (118,000 kms)on it. The receiver dryer of the air conditioning unit rotted after 5.5 years. Nine months later, the air conditioning would not give cold air and the freon was evacuated and recharged after using a 940 super seal kit. A year later (which is now), the air from the air conditioner seems to be a little warmer than it should be and the compressor is going on and off every 5 to 8 seconds (can hear the tick sound and a slight tremble). That means I've got trouble with the air conditioner three times in the past 2.5 years.
Was my mechanic correct when he used a sealing kit? I have heard it is better to find the source of the leak and not use a sealant. Is my compressor going on and off so often because I have another leak or has something else gone wrong? Should'nt a freon recharge last more than one year?
Thanks. Charles
