Well, it might be old news, but for me it was nirvana.
The retaining ring that holds the fuel pump can be easily ruined using tools that weren't designed to remove it. Well, you might be able to, but through experience I have learned a more refined approach is always better.
I got a 12" piece of metal square key stock and bent it in a flat bottom "U" shape. The legs were cut to matching lengths and the span was bent to match the diameter of the retaining ring. Close is good enough because it can be bent easily enough for a perfect fit.
I placed it between the fins and using a slip-joint pliers spun that sucker right from it's home of 8 years. This was done easily, without damage and a cocky smile.
If a wielding a bench vise and hack-saw are not part of your shop skills, I would be happy to fabricate this unique item for you. It can also be used for minature croquet although this would void the warranty.
