Rear window defogger S70

We just bought our 1998 S70 and are now having problems with the rear window defoger. In the past when it was warm we also had problems with the micro switch for the air conditioner not turning the air. Sometimes we have had to turn the car off and back on for the air to work. Is there any correlation or does anybody know what to look for other than a fuse which is good? Thanks Tom
