clicking sound as car decelarates/acelerates

Along the lines of the many brake type questions recently, I have a noise that I'm somewhat concerned about. As my 96 850 Turbo Wagon comes to a stop, just as the car is about to come to a rest (body of car is forward, and then as it stops, it settles back), there comes from the front end a clicking sound as the car settles down. It sounds like the suspention system or something in the brakes. I get the same sound as I let the brakes off and step on the gas and the car acelerates forward. It happens just before coming to a full stop or just after starting to move forward.

I do drive the car on rough, washboard roads, and this started after a particularly long stretch of rough roads a couple of weeks ago. The braking does not appear to be affected.

Anyone have any ideas?

thanks,

matt
