Does ABS light illuminate when ABS activates 850 1997

My 850 shakes when the car is loaded when braking. It feels kind of like ABS going off, but I have seen other threads indicating that this may be a rear brake shim or warped rotor. Does the ABS light illunate when ABS is activated? If so this would rule out ABS since the light does not come on.
