Well, I've had my '93 850 GLT for two months, (62,000 miles)and the front
brakes started howling relentlessly. So I contacted my buddy Randy who has
owned and sold countless foreign cars. We examined the front pads and
assessed they were very recently installed. Seems Randy had a "home remedy."
His prescription...
Prepare a paste (by adding water), of household scouring powder like Comet
or Ajax and dab on both sides of the rotor. Drive around briefly while breaking heavily a couple times.
Repeat this procedure four or five times.
The squeak is gone!
Randy said the pad surface gets "glassy," and the abrasive compound removes
this glassy layer.
Sorry this doesn't sound very professional, but it worked for me.
