It's been a while since I've posted but I read the messages all the time. Some of the posts confirm my knowledge, and others are just down right entertaining. All in all it's good to see Volvo enthusiasts share the same interests.
I just got a '99 S80 2.9 w/ 93k in mint condition and love it, stepped up from a '94 850 wagon and before that a '90 760 Turbo.
First the moonroof on the S80 only opens about a 1/3 of the whole opening, it does close and tilt normally. Now before all of you jump the gun on the reply button, I know that in the manual it says it first opens to the 'comfort' setting and then if desired to press the button again to open all the way. I've done this but it doesn't open any more than a 1/3. I have noticed that everytime I press the button the lights on the dash dim just a bit and I can hear the motor click so I know that it's getting power. It most likely is getting physically jammed from opening all the way. I haven't seen anything that could be in the way from the outside and the track looks like it is greased up enough. Could the problem be within the motor and gearing housing or else where down the track?
Secondly, some of the lights on the climate controls don't light and it's hard to see at night. What is the procedure in getting the panel off and access to the bulbs? And is it possible to replace all the bulbs inside the cabin with LEDs (including the radio)?
Lastly, when driven I can hear slight tapping or rattling on bumps from the front of the car. I have read that there is a general recall on the ball joints as I suspect to be making the noise. Since it is a recall, will the dealer replace them at no charge?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
