My 95 850 has started to fall apart on me. All the problems I note below
have happened over a relatively short time ~6 mos. If anyone could help
with problems 1, 2 or 5, I'd be obliged. BTW, I don't get any warning
lights showing up on the panel, so I guess checking for fault codes would
be a waste of time.
1) ABS Indicator stays lit right after engine start
I also notice that the turn indicators don't work and the shift lock
override needs to be engaged to get out of Park. If I stop the engine
and restart it, the ABS lamp goes out and the car works fine.
2) Excessive oil consumption
Actually, this one has been going on for quite a while. No sign of a
leak and it doesn't seem to be blowing blue - doesn't smell like it
either. To top up the oil I have to add 1 or 2 litres.
3) Rusty Dipstick
This is a weird one. The dipstick gets a very thick coating of rust
on it and a large accumulation of sludge - rust and guck - at the
bottom. Kept happening even after I cleaned and oiled it. It's been
OK lately, though.
4) Fan Motor only works on Switch Setting 4
I was able to find lots of posts on this subject here. Seems to be
a pretty common problem.
5) Engine Running Rough
I suspect either the ignition system or the fuel injectors, but
I don't know how to determine which. Could spend $250 (dealer's
price) to replace ignition components, but if that's not it...
Problem started while I was stopped at a light and noticed one large
BUMP in the idle which would then resume normal smooth running.
When moving off at the light, the initial application of accelerator
I'd notice a hesitation and faltering feeling and then the engine
would catch and it would run normally. After a week of this, the
problem is now there full time. The engine seems to be missing and
the car vibrates right from turning the key. The car has less power
while driving along and the problem persists all the way up the tach.
There are 3 screws holding the distributor on and I couldn't
get at the bottom one because there was some kind of sensor in the
way of my ratchet.
