I recently suffered through a 90K "service" from a Volvo dealer. In addition to the 90K I asked them to drop the transmission pan, change the filter/fluid/gasket. When I got the car back, I didn't realize that half the items in the "service" were either not done or done incorrectly.
The biggest of those is they forgot to change the transmission filter and to properly fill with ATF. I drove around for approximately two weeks, around 800 miles before I realized what was wrong, checked the fluid. The dipstick was DRY. I bought 2 quarts ATF (one to fill, one just in case). The car took both quarts. Went back to the dealer in Stamford, CT and they added a third quart to bring it to proper fill.
Now I'm wondering if this might have caused transmission damage. Also, would the failure be subtle or catastrophic. And finally, would the failure show up immediately as the dealer claims, or can it show up months/years down the line?
BTW, most of the miles were in fairly heavy rush hour traffic with speeds ranging from a 10mph crawl to 80mph sprints, back to crawl.
