ok, my friend chris called and gave me more info.
96 850
third brake light is a bulb
bulb warning comes on when ever brake is pressed, no matter if head lights are on, or parking lights.

**he says that the third brake light, when the pedal is pressed, comes on g r a d u a l l y, not instantaneously like the other bulbs

im guessing he should check grounds, and get the proper hi int. bulb from volvo.
