Blue Antifreeze 850 1995

Volvo blue antifreeze was always thought to be necessary for the extended life. Today I got a gallon of antifreeze at the local Volvo dealer to use for topping up, and when opened found it was green, like the less expensive stuff available at any autoparts store. Now that Volvo is part of Ford are they saying the green stuff is good enough because that's what Ford uses?
