S80 dies at idle - driving wife crazy! S80

Our 99 S80 has several issues that I think must be related but I want your opinions.

1. At idle the car dies or the RPMs drop from ~650 to 300 and sometime it "catches" itself, but once in a while it just dies. You can blip the gas pedal to keep it from happening when you feel it coming on.

2. The service emissions light is on and has been for two weeks

3. The dealer said I need to have the pcv system and throttle body cleaned. Also it needs a "software upgrade" all this for $450.00

I you have the time I just what to get a sanity check with you guys first.
