Turbo Boost Pressure gage - true indication of problems? 850 1995

My '95 T5 wagon has a turbo boost gage on the dash. I have owned the car for 2 years and now have 120k miles. I think previously the boost gage would nearly pin to the right on hard acceleration and sport mode. Currently, the max gage indication is only about 3/4 of full scale under max acceleration. Is the gage an accurate indication of turbo boost conditions? Should I be concerned about the current gage indications? Should I have a mechanic diagnose further? Are there turbo system maintenance issues that routinely need to be looked at that could be contributing to current conditions? I have not noticed any major drop in power.
