loaping idle 850

I've noticed that recently my '97 turbo will idle irradically when in park and warmed up. It generally idles at around 1,000 rpm but when in park it will slow to about 800-900 rpm at which time it sort of surges back to 1,000. It happens intermittently. What could this be ?
