850 and new baby...2nd thread 850

Like the previous thread, we have a new baby and a 1996 850.
My wife is thinking of an Au Pair, but I can't afford to run both.
The 850 is giving me plenty of long term pleasure, is reliable, and a good runner. But SWMBO is saying we should sell it to finance an Au Pair for the year.

I know the Au Pair will be a younger model, preferably in blonde, with excellent bodywork, and should have more performance, but is it really worth the short-term pleasure of the Au pair compared to the 850?
Will an Au Pair be as responsive to my demands?
I've also heard that the eastern european models are extremely easy to work on and can be got quite keep, so should I go for one of these?
Obviously I wouldn't want any annoying whines or grumbles, so are the later builds free of these?

Has anyone else done this swap?
