recently out son's 94 850 wagon hestitated briefly, cut out, ran again briefly and cut out and then would not start. We had prior experience with fuel pump and decided to start there. Turned the key no pump noise, pulled the pump to find something very surprising and disturbing. The coating of the wires of showed evidence of dramatic heating to the point of being brittle and blackened. Many of the strands were separated for some time and had been melted with small lumps of solidified wire at their ends. There were only about 7-8 strands providing contact toward the end that showed recent breakage by being brighter copper color. When wires make or break cotnact with DC current isn't there a strong chance of spark??? Are we wrong in thinking that this was a very explosive situation? I don't really need and answer to what may have caused the "short" or what ever to heat the wire enough to melt the plactic coating and even the wire itself. I know we checked out 94 turbo sedan and had our other son check his fuel pump on his 95 turbo sedan.
