Slamming into 3rd gear (auto transmission) V70-XC70 2002

Hi. I've started to notice that on my wife's 2002 V70XC, it's really slamming hard into 3rd gear sometimes (it's an automatic). The car is 18 months old and only has 8000 miles on it. Should I be worried that this is the start of something horrible? Thanks.
