Posted a few days ago that I came out of the store one day, tried to start my car (1995 854 T5-R), and it refused to start or even crank. When I tried to crank the engine the doors locked instead, and a clicking sound was heard coming from the battery area. Tried a few jump starts- nothing.
Had the car towed to the mechanic and he replaced the starter. After I picked it up I was able to successfully start the car twice, but yesterday I tried starting it and got the same problem; the car refused to crank or start- the doors would lock instead and a click would be heard from underneath the hood. Tried starting in Neutral- didn't work. Tried resetting the alarm several times using the method someone posted earlier: 5 cycles from Ignition Position I to III, leaving the key in Position III the final time and pressing a button on the remote. However, the red light on the alarm never came on with the fifth cycle as it was supposed to. Not sure what to do next- I've read about faulty or dirty battery connections or ground connections causing "no start" problems? Should I look into this, and if so, how would I go about checking/cleaning this (I'm a Volvo novice)? ...I haven't experienced any strange happenings with the electrical system in the car so far.
