1994 850T ECU vs 1996 850T ECU 850 1994

Is it possible to put the 1994 850T ECU into a 1996 850T - or for that matter a 1996 ECU into a 1994 850T? I have both cars, but I am worried I will damage something if interchange them. The serial numbers on the ECU boxes are exactly the same in 94,96. Scott Hart from IPD said that I could interchance the two ECUs (upgraded too), but I would probably get error codes because of the different emmissions setting is 96 - but otherwise it would work. Does any one know the exact differences between the two ECUs?

The reason I am interested is that I am thinking about getting an IPD ECU upgrade on my 94, but I would like to try it out on my 96 once in a while.

By the way, speaking of upgrades on the 1994 850T, I was getting excited about the IPD upgrade. Then I found out that it was one of those rare 1994 ECUs that says "TOMAS" on it - and it can't be upgraded! I was so disappointed! I am going to purchase a used 1994 ECU that is upgradable so I can upgrade.
