V40 stutters & cuts out S40-V40

My 1998 V40 (T4 SE), when driving at a continuous speed for over 1/2 hour, will start to stutter & then cut out, regularly. After resting the car, it will restart but the engine will cut out again. While driving the car locally, the car does not cut out but it does not seem to be driving as smoothly in the first year I bought it (2002).The dealership has changed the fuel pump & now says it could be the fuel injectors (£1,000). Any ideas to help.
