Whats the story on the 40 series S40-V40

My sister is thinking of buying a V40 ( 2000) , I have no experience or have not owned one (yet)

I drive a 95 850 glt 170,000 miles which I love ( but have dealt with all the problems)

Whats the story with S40's and V40's I am sure there is one, thumbs up or down...........
