high idle speed ? 850 1997

My non-turbo '97 850 (115 K miles) idles just a hair below 1000 rpm. It has done that as long as I've owned it - I bought it a year ago at 104 K. The Haynes manual says the idle speed is supposed to be 850 rpm. Engine runs fine and smooth otherwise. Does the higher idle speed indicate a problem? Is the RPM gauge accurate?
