take off belt tensioner ? 850

HOw would a guy go about taking off the timing belt ? well i know how to do it but what is tricky to me is releasing the tensioner, i think i read that you use a 3/8 head but other then that im not sure how to work the mechanism to take off the belt... I am replacing the water pump. 94 850
