Temperature Gauge Indicates Overheating... S40-V40 2000

It is my first time posting on this board. The temperature gauge on my 2000 volvo v40 goes into the "red" when I am driving in hot weather. It has about 72000 miles on it. Any ideas what this might be? Should I take it to the Volvo dealer or would any repair shop be ok?

PS.. It has been to the dealership for service 3 times in the past year for check engine light problems. They replaced the gas cap, the thermostat, the temperature sensor and most recently - 2 ignition coils.

Thanks,
Dan
