WHOAA!! No brake pad retaining clips, normal? 850 1994

Hello everyone. I need some help. My buddy and I replaced the pads and rotors on my '94 850 last night (recent purchase) and everything went great except that there were not any retaining clips present for the outboard pads on my car. Could someone have replaced the calipers with some other aftermarket type. I used new OEM Volvo pads and Zimmerman rotors and everything fit well otherwise. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot everyone!!
