timing belt on a 94' 850 850 1994

I have a line on 1994 850 with 218k. The present owner said the timing belt needs to be changed at 228k, and I'm curious about two things:
1) what's the average replacement costs? (CDN dollars preferably)
2) I've had a timing chain replaced, which was hugely expensive; am I wrong in thinking they're the same thing, but different?? (If you know what I mean)
