I just bought a 2001 V70 and found the trans fluid burnt. I called my dealer-$350.00 for the service. Local oil change places would not even touch it.
Trans shops- maybe, no estimate. I worked at a trans shop for 10 months so I felt confident in doing the job.
Here is the skinny:
Equipment:
-Wide mouth pan
-Five foot,.5 inch ID clear hose
-Long small-end funnel.
-Five gallon bucket.
-13 to 15 quarts of Dextron-III.( Check owners man. 2001 specified Dextron III).
-Brake cleaner spray and rags.
-Assistant
Procedure:
-Place a wide-mouth pan under the left side(driver)under the radiator area.
-Remove the LOWER cooler line by GENTLY squeezing the plastic clips and pulling back(aft).
- Carefully remove the two yellow O-rings and slide the .5 inch ID clear hose approximately five feet long over the end of the fitting and place end into five gallon bucket.
-Start car and allow fluid to run into bucket.
-When the fluid begins to sputter- STOP NOW.
-Fill with 4 (four) quarts of fluid.
-Start car and flush until the fluid sputters.
-Continue flushing until about 8 (eight) quarts of fluid are used, or until the fluid turns a nice cherry-red.
-Remove the hose, install the O-rings, lube with fluid and gently install the fitting into the cooler untill the plastic clips "click".
-Note: only put in four quarts at a time, and before the road test start the car, apply the parking brake and apply brake and shift the trans into reverse, neutral, drive and so on a few times, then check the fluid at the "COLD" setting, if OK,drive the car for about 15 minutes. Return to the garage and check the dipstick at the "HOT" area. If over-filled, shut off the engine remove the lower cooler line and clean-catch the fluid. Start engine and check again.
