After driving my 2002 S60 AWD for about a year, I ran into an unusual situation of nearly running out of gas when I should have been fine. On my commute home and only several miles from my destination, my low fuel warning light came on. I had previously driven the car 30-50 miles on this reserve light without problem. The car ran fine until the next morning when it would not start. I could not believe the gas was that low, but when I put a gallon in it started up immediately. It ran rough for a mile or two then was fine. The odd thing was that when I filled it up, it only took 16 gallons (where were the remaining 5 gallons?). Now if by some chance I let the tank drop to the point that the reserve warning light comes on, it starts roughly every time the next day. Also, I have never been able to put in more than 17 gallons at fill up time. I have never run out of gas again, but now I can't let the tank even get low for fear of running out since I have no accurate way to judge how much fuel is really available based on what the instruments say. It seems very odd and cumbersome to not be able to use the low fuel warning. Has anybody else had this experience? Thanks.
