? about vent hose into ECU box V70-XC70

When we bought our '01 V70 T5 a few weeks ago I noticed that the vent tube going into the ECU box was missing. Asked the sales guy who checked with the service manager who said some cars had the vent tube while others had a fan inside the ECU box. Took the car to a local dealer to get some other things taken care of and they said that ours had the fan inside the box and they put a plug over the hole where a vent tube would go. This weekend I looked in the box and saw no fan.

Without a fan, how important is this vent tube?
