Below is a link to a eBay auction for a 2000 S80 2.9 with 117,000 miles. I won the auction for $8500. I own a 1993 240 and I know of the various "issues" with the 1999 and 2000 S80's. Still, I think $8500 was a good deal. The car is local and the dealer is very reputable.

Before taking delivery, the dealer has his cars certified by the manufacturer. The Volvo dealer reported a code on the tranny that indicated a solenoid problem. Also, the dealer noted that the shift between 3rd and 4th was a little hard and that the clutch might need replacing. Instead of repairing the tranny, the used car dealer worked with Ford and they agreed to pay the $800 for a rebuilt tranny from VoluParts - a very respectable parts place here in Atlanta.
I called my Volvo mechanic and he agreed the price was right and the tranny issue (being replaced with rebuilt) technically only sweetens the deal. But, he also warned me about the S80 in general and told me to expect repair costs. He suggested I try to find myself a very clean 1998 S70 and his advice was to take the tranny excuse and walk away from the deal.
Opinions Wanted please.
Thanks,
Bob Hagan
