Rear view mirror S70

Mornin' all,
I bought my '98 S70 a month ago, and the one annoyance I have is I sit too high to see all the view from the inetrior rear view mirror. The problem is that I cannot for the life of me adjust the mirror - in any direction, up, down, sideways. It's well stuck! I can only assume it hasn't been moved and has seized in place. Has anyone had this problem, or can anyone give me a suggestion as to how to free it? I'm wondering if there's any way I can get WD40 or a lubricant into the ball/socket (if that's what's there). I feel like if I reef on it any harder to try to get it to move, that it'll end up breaking off somewhere and then I'm really screwed.
