Hi Brickboard- We have a 97 855T5, and are planning to tow a JetSki with it. Not a big deal, overall weight is about 800#, and the tongue weight is only 20# or so.
It looks like there are two hitches I can get for this:
Draw Tite which is $162 with shipping.
Hidden Hitch which is $131 with shipping.
Is one better than the other? They're both Class2, which is good for 3500#; this takes me to my next question-
At some point in the future (maybe two years off?) we'd like to get a pop-top trailer. It looks like they run right about 1800#GVR, 2200#GWVR. What's the difference? And don't say 400#, ha ha.
At what point am I biting off more than I can chew, weight wise? Assuming I have trailer brakes (I think needed for more than 1500# IIRC), what's the realistic max I can hope to tug behind our T5? I'm down for minor improvements (trans cooler, etc) as required, of course. Our trips would likely take us to high elevation (5000-7000') if that has a bearing.
Thanks for any feedback!!
