I am originally a saab guy. Got drawn to the 240's for my girlfriend because of their reliability (although have had mediocre success with that) and now am driving a e36 bmw. It lacks the turbo spunk I enjoy. (My project car is a Sierra Cosworth Replica based on a Merkur XR4Ti)
I am located in Minnesota, USA! Here is my plan for a new car. Buy an 850 Turbo Auto (that's the only flavor in the US) and then import a 5sp tranny, clutch/flywheel, 5sp interior trim pieces, and pedal assembly from either Canada (cheaper) or Europe. I just bought a house and am not rich so buying a 70 series is out.
Questions...
Does anyone know of anyone that has done it? Any resources?
Are the 5 speeds from turbo and n/a models the same?
Is the clutch hydraulic?
Like saab, volvo is a smaller car company and I would assume that the chassis has all the necessary mounts for tranny and pedal assembly. Is this true?
Thanks alot guys! I was inspired by a good friend of mine who put a 6speed WRX Sti tranny in a Subaru SVX which was only available in the US with an auto.
