serpentine belt slipping 850

i got a new serpentine belt for my '93 850 glt. and the damn thing keeps slipping off every way i put it on. it tries to roll off ( and would if i didnt stop it) towards the engine. i am thinking that i might have a loose belt tensioner causing it to vibrate and letting it go offwards. the old one is looking very ratty and i dont want it on there much longer. i did this old original way not the new way of routing the belt. i read thre is a different route for new belts. but mine was good tention when i had it the original way.
