I am planning to replace my 1993 940 with a newer Volvo that has side airbags. I have found a 1997 T5 with 90,000 miles. It is in excellent shape with COMPLETE service records. I know it needs engine mounts and a rear main seal. From everything I've read, the 97 is about the best year, possibly better than the 99 or 00 S70.
My main question has to do with the ride. My freind had a 1994 T5, and said it was a very, very stiff ride. I have not noticed a stiff ride with this 1997. It has 16-inch after-market wheels. Someone else told me that the springs on the 96/97's are different than on the earlier years and that is why the ride is better. I test drove a plain-jane 1998 S70, and the ride was not as smooth as this 97.
Any comments? Were the original wheels 17-inch, which would be a stiffer ride? Are the springs different? What would make this car as smooth as it is?
If you want to give me any other things to look for on this car, go ahead.
