How do I remove water in the blower motor housing???? V70-XC70

Hello eveyone-
I took my '98 V70 in for it's 90/100K checkup today to my mechanic. I'm happy to say it's in tip-top shape!! I've been hearing water from what sounds like inside the cabin. The floors are not wet though. My mechanic said a very common problem in the 850/V70's is water getting in the blower motor housing. It gets in there and gets trapped. It will start to really stink after awhile which is a common complaint I guess....

My mechanic happened to have a wrecked 850 that had the dash completly disassembled. It looks like about the only way you can remove the standing water is by taking the lower panel under the glove compartment out. There is about a 2" X 2" square where the fan resister sits in the housing. It looks like if I can get that resister out, I'll have a nice access hole to fit my shop vac or a siphon down in there to remove the water.

Does this sound like a good/bad plan to everyone? I'm very open to suggestions or a different approach. He also suggested leaving the fan on for a few hours to dry out, but from the sound of the water there's too much of it in there for that to do much good.

Thanks for any suggestions/ideas in advance!!

Ryan
