Breathing life back into my starter 850

i took my starter out and i belive the selenoid is wonky. i read that i can file some contact points and reverse a copper tube or coil or something. i dont see what im supposed to reverse first thing... but i was wondering if anyone had infor or a link to information pertaining to starters in general and maby fixing a volvo starter. im sure if i can find info on starters in general i can figure out what to do . so far im having no luck. just " buy this " " buy that " pages.
