Anybody disconnected their shiftlock?

Not knowing if it is a ignition/shiftlock problem or cable/shiftlock problem,(redundent system), I want to just disconnect the shiftlock altogether. I read in the archives about bending the locking "pin" out of the way so the shifter moves freely. Anybody done this? This is one safety "feature" (which btw is only in Canada and the U.S) that I can do without....
