Removed shiflock from '94 850. 850 1994

After years of thinking the old "shiftlock" problem wasn't ever going to happen to MY CAR, it started to fail last week. It became that the shiftlock release button had to be pressed every time you wanted to get out of park. My Volvo maintenance manual showed just how this "safety feature" works. Turning the key sends a voltage to a microswitch which releases a solanoid that is locking the shifter. Volvo in their wisdom, backs this up with a cable that also runs from the ignition and releases the shifter as well. Not knowing where the problem was but guessing that it was the microswitch, I chose to remove the microswitch and solanoid combination all together. The problem of course no longer exists and this is one safety feature I can live without.
If the car were any newer I would have re-considered the repair. We are hoping to purchase a new S60T5 next year and keep the 850 as our "second" car.
