I posted this on the V70 section and didn't get much action. I figured there are more mechanics that have 850's being they are older.
Here is my question: I am working on a friends 2000 V70 with the B5244S engine. It has 88k miles and has had the oil changed evern 3-5000 miles. Never been run low or out of oil. Started to use 1-2 quarts every 2-3000 miles a couple of months ago and slowly lost power over time finally stalling when stopped (auto trans). Took it to local shop who then pulled the head. The top .50" of the cylinder bores are washboarded/wavey. I would assume that this is what is causing the loss of power/ compression and oil consumption.
Any ideas what would cause this? My first guess would be loss of lubrication. But being that oil was never low and the cylinders are lubed by oil splashed by the crank it kind of rules that out. He didn't drive it hard and it never overheated either.
I am thinking of buying this car and replacing the engine as I don't think that I could get oversize pistons and rings for such a new engine. Any suggestions for sources?
