I’m looking at a used 2002 S60 AWD with 33,000 miles and need some advice / questions answered. We currently have a 98 XC70 so my test drive observations are relative to the XC driving experience. The S60 is NOT to replace the XC(we plan to keep the XC).
1) During the test drive the tranny seemed to shift strangely (sometimes) from 1st to 2nd gear. I was inconsistent and most times seemed to shift too early. Is this normal? Are there any software upgrades that need to be installed to change the shift points?
2) The rear brake rotors have ripples on them across most of the surface of the rotor. I felt the rotors on the XC with 75,000 and they are smooth. Could it be that the previous owner did not change the rear pads and the pads have damaged the rotors?
3) How difficult and costly would it be to add fog lights? There appears to be a place on the lower left side of the dash to add a switch and it looks like the lights can be installed on the front without much problem.
4) Are there any typical problems with this model that I should be aware of?
The car drove well with the exception of the strange shifting as noted above.
Thanks in advance for your help!
