Pwr Steering Rack Leak 850

I have read the recent archives on this topic and was wondering if anyone has resolved the issue of a slow P/S leak. My '96 850 GLT leak is showing up as wetness beneath the boots on the sub frame. I topped up my car's system with some poor quality fluid some time ago as well, did this create the problem? Must we use the Volvo fluid? Does Lucas Power Steering Conditioner work? How much is a new/rebuilt rack (part cost)? Is this a long hard frustrating job? I have done a Mazda rack twice and it looks almost the same.
