I recently purchased the Info (Trip) Computer for my '95 855 on eBay,
and with some trepidation attempted the installation procedure which
is very well documented on Bay 13. It turned out to be "no sweat".
Finding and removing all the torx screws was straitforward, and the
only tricky part is lifting the dash up high enough to get the instrument
cluster out without scratching it (used the towel trick, of course).
The new Info Computer first powered up with all segments and icons
lit, and gave me an instant heart-attack thinking it was fried, but
after 10 seconds, it quietly reset and came up with 12:00 and current
temperature!
All-in-all, I would say this is definitely not as scary a procedure as
it sounds at first blush. Take your time, and don't panic.
Oh, and I found that the computer I purchased, having come from the US,
was of course in miles, mpg, etc (I'm in Canada, and my odometer etc.
are in kilometers). The usual "both buttons at once" trick will switch
the temperature readout to Celsius, but the rest of the computer is
firmly in Imperial units. No biggy, since I'm more comfortable with MPG
anyways, and now I have a trip-odometer in Miles to complement the mechanical
one in Kilometers. Anyways, the module _cannot_ be converted to metric
as the annuciators are fixed in Imperial units. Just a head's up.
