I want a new stereo and I have a good SC 811 850

SC 811 with the 100 watt amp. What do you suggest as a replacement? Do the 8 speakers make a difference when deciding? I want to spend less than $200. Should I just buy a few tapes? Is it a bad idea to mess with what is stock?
