91 240DL stalling problem 1991

I have a 1991 240DL that will suddenly cut out at 50MPH. A computerized engine analysis turned up a bad air mass flow meter, which I replaced. While driving home from the shop same thing, service engine light and total loss of power. I put the car in neutral and it started again. can anyone offer any recomendations??
